We were born into this world
Young souls of a kindred breed
Our voices could not sing
Broken wings that could not flee
We grew wise to unkind eyes
And numb to bathroom mirrors
Clutched blankets in the night
Stained pillows with our tears
We carried invisible wounds
Young prey with not a shield
Screamed in raging silence
While the devil chained our heals
We surrendered our song to fear
Buried truths amidst the shame
Painted our wounds with courage
And dragged those stones of blame
The fear began to bore a hole
A well running deep and cold
We searched for warmth to come
But how we did not know
With time we grew in height
While the child stood aimlessly still
Unable to unlock the secrets
With shame the well then filled
Then one by one we came
Each child held anothers hand
Amazing grace came raining down
As our pain poured out like sand
The well then slowly emptied
As the secrets began to flow
Each kindred child found another
In this light our love did grow
Soon we shall stand and sing
Our song of joy to the world
For in this light we are growing
The gift of our wings shall unfold
The deeper the well within
That was bored into the child
Shall be washed away with courage
And the river of love shall reside
