An innocent little girl, eyes turned to
look her way
A beautiful lucky child, they always seemed to say
Her hair of golden strands, eyes of deep sapphire blue
Blessed with charm and looks, one of the chosen few
Her ears could hear their words, but her heart
could not believe
She did not feel so blessed, the lies she hid underneath
She learned to hide the pain, behind a wooden smile
The world could only see, a carefree happy child
If only they had known, about the hole inside
her soul
If only they'd looked deeper, to the things she never told
The shifting eyes of evil, the hands of twisted lust
Raped of childhood treasures, dreams crumbled into dust
Her hair of golden strands, blew gently in the
wind
As she grew into a woman, the child lay silent within
She wanted to be like others, to spread her wings and fly
She looked into the mirror, her wings had been denied
Alone she made her way, down a long and darkened
road
The child began to whisper, as the woman carried the load
Time and time again, she rocked the child to sleep
Put on her wooden smile, her back to eyes that creep
Eyes of sapphire blue, shown brightly through
the years
Strong and brave she struggled, to hold back the sea of tears
"Look deeper into the blue," the child began to
demand
"Can not you see me waiting? Reach out and take my hand"
The woman wanted to reach, but turned her back
instead
Denied the child a voice, declared her to be dead
Shutting out the ugly past, may lighten the heavy load
She waited to feel weightless, but the burden refused to
go
She gave compassion freely, to others in need
of care
It flowed from her so tenderly, just as her golden hair
Her heart went out to children, she loved the little ones
so
Somehow her mind was eased, but the weight was still in tow
One day her life was changed, by a beautiful little
girl
With eyes of sapphire blue, and golden hair that curled
She stared into the woman's face, who wore the wooden smile
As though the girl could see the truth, behind the woman's
eyes
The little girl reached outward, and touched the
woman's face
Her tiny finger made a path, as though a tear she'd traced
"I cry sometimes at night", she whispered to the
woman's ear
"I hold on to my pillow, so my mommy doesn't hear"
"Look deeper into the blue", she heard
from a distant past
"Why would you hide your tears?", the woman said
at last
The little girl dropped her eyes, a tear rose up and fell
"Because I did some bad things, and I promised
not to tell"
The woman felt the pain, it swelled and
burned her eyes
The sea of tears began to flow, as she thought of wings denied
What made this girl come to her, did she know her secret
somehow?
Had the child inside her come alive, and stood before her
now?
"We must go tell your mommy," she managed
to finally speak
"Telling the truth will set you free, the secrets will
make you weak"
"I know someone just like you, she thought that she
was bad"
"As hard as she tried to smile, inside she just felt
sad"
"But everyone will hate me!" the girl
shook with painful fear
The woman cried for both of them, and cradled the child so
near
"I promise I won't leave you, I 'll be right by your
side"
"We will do this together, we will spread our wings
and fly"
She told the bewildered girl, the truth she had
denied
How it made her heavy, to know that she had lied
The truth was no one hated her, but she didn't like herself
Until this very moment, she hadn't known how bad that felt
Young eyes of sapphire blue, looked deeply into
her own
The woman felt a comfort, a lightness she had never known
"You're a very special child," the woman whispered
in her ear
"With lots of love and care, we can walk through all
the fear"
She thought it was her destiny, to walk this world
alone
In her arms she held the past, and the future all in one
She took the child's hand, they stood and embraced again
Two smiles began to glow, from somewhere deep within
This story is shared in hope, to children across
the world
Who may have lost their wings, as a young boy or girl
Embrace the child within you, let her voice become a song
Look deeper into the blue, for the truth will guide you home
